Core vaccines

There are certain
vaccines that are an absolute necessity for all cats regardless of which region
they live in or in what whether conditions. There are four core vaccines. They
are:

Rabies

FVRCP

◦ Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

◦ Feline Rhinotracheitis
Virus/Herpesvirus 1 (FVR/FHV-1)

◦ Feline Panleukopenia (FPV)

These vaccines
protect your cat from highly dangerous diseases that are common across the
world. Let us take a look at each of these vaccines in detail.

Rabies

Rabies is a fatal
disease that can not only affect cats, but humans as well. Cats are naturally
not carriers of the disease, but they can acquire rabies if they are bitten by
an infected animal. Once a cat is bitten by an infected animal, the cat can
spread the disease further. The early incubation stages of rabies are followed by
signs of disorientation, aggression and ultimately, death. Rabies is a
worldwide endemic and some places require you to get your cat vaccinated
against rabies by law. Regardless of whether or not you need to do so by law,
it is an absolute must to protect your pet, as well as yourself, from this
deadly disease. The rabies vaccine is not a one time vaccine and you will need
to vaccinate your cat at regular time intervals. Talk to your vet to know how
often your cat must be vaccinated.

FVRCP

Three core vaccines
are combined into a three-in-one vaccine that is referred to as the FVRCP
vaccine. Having all these vaccines combined as one allows the vet to administer
them all in just one injection, which causes less discomfort to your pet as
compared to three separate injections.

FPV Vaccine – This vaccine protects your cat from
Feline panleukopenia which is highly infectious and common among kittens. This
disease kills the white blood cells in your cats, reducing their immunity
entirely.

FHV-1 Vaccine – This vaccine can protect your pet
from Feline herpesvirus which causes severe respiratory infections as well as
pneumonia.

FCV Vaccine – FCV is associated with chronic
stomatitis which causes painful gum and teeth inflammation. The vaccine can
protect your cat against this painful disease.

Visit your vet and make sure you get your cat
vaccinated as soon as possible.
